Aadhaar has become one of the most important documents to for getting various tasks done. Right from the investment to getting the other documents, everything require you having an Aadhaar Card. This new identity card has made our lives easy in many ways sparing individuals from the hustle of carrying plethora of documents to open a new bank account, or open PPF account and so on. However, due to few circumstances you might want to change the address on the Aadhaar card. For instance, if you have located somewhere else after marriage then it would only be apt to replace the old address with the new one. Among many services offered the, Aadhar portal also offers the Aadhaar Address Update.
Who Can Update?
An Individual who has the registered mobile number can update the address on the Aadhaar using the online portal. The prerequisite that UIDAI has mentioned on its website for Aadhaar Address Update is that, “Registered Mobile number is mandatory to receive password for login.” Even if the information is submitted it would not guarantee that the data would be updated because after the submission of the data, it is subjected to verification and validation as per the UIDAI website. Here is how to update the address in the Aadhaar database.
Step 1 – Go to the UIDAI portal and select the Aadhaar Address Update from the Aadhaar Online Services.
Step 2- Once you have selected, enter the 12-digit Aadhaar numbers and Click on ‘Send OTP’. The One-time password would be send on the registered mobile number.
Step 3 – Select the address and Proceed
Step 4 – Fill in the right details which is the updates address
Step 5 – Once the updates address has been filled, the information would appear to you before clocking the OK button. The English spellings in the local language boxes would be modified to get the local language spelling correctly as per the UIDAI self- service update portal.
Step 6 – After updating the address, the next step would be to submit the valid documents as per the list. The original scan copies of the valid documents should be uploaded.
Step 7 – After the documents have been uploaded, the URN page would open and Update Request Number would be issues to track the status of the application.
UIDAI has posted string of documents that would act as valid proof of the address. These are:
- Bank Statement / Passbook
- Statement of Post Office account/ Passbook
- Ration Card
- Voter ID
- Driving License
- Telephone landline bill
- Water Bill
Note: The water, electricity and telephone bill should not be older than three months.
