With the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) launching online counseling, students who clear the Common Entrance Test (CET) this year can select their seats from the comfort of their homes. The online process will spare students and parents the trouble of going to counselling centres. It will also check blocking of seats as the KEA website will show a seat as having been selected as soon as a student does so.
The software will search seats based on candidates merit and priority of options and allot the best possible one.All students who have secured a rank in CET can participate. The primary step is verification of documents which will be done in 12 helpline centres: at
Bangalore,Belgaum,Bellary,Chitradurga,Mangalore,Dharwad,Gulbarga,Mysore,Shimoga,Karwar,Raichur and Bijapur.
Each seat on offer can be tracked Students will know the options available.Important for those who are unsure whether to take medical or engineering Details on various seats are available at one go.Till now,the students had to wait for screens at the KEA centre to flash the available seat matrix Earlier a student had to make at least 8-10 visits till the process was over. Now,just two visits: for documents verification, and fee payment Number of helpline centres has doubled
This system will liberate students. There will be a mock allotment,e-tutorials,CDs,FAQs on website and hands on training. What we want the students to do is to zero in on the choices, make a list of priorities, read about the colleges they are going to choose and then mark the options.
